ECC brings in cryptocurrency, blockchain expert for free public program
Elgin Community College will host a free event next week on the topics of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.
Rohit Tandon, CEO and founder of Chicago-based Chainworks, will speak on “Enterprise Blockchain, Cryptocurrencies and the Road Ahead” at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the ECC Spartan Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
According to an ECC news release, the fundamentals of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, the natural use cases for enterprise blockchain and engaging with blockchain technology will be discussed.
“Along with its role in finance and commerce, blockchain is being infused into legal environments through ‘smart contacts’, and in manufacturing and supply chain management through distributed ledger technology,” Marc Battista, ECC’s interim dean of sustainability, business and career technologies, said in the news release. “ECC recognizes blockchain’s potential as a disruptive force that will permeate many different sectors of industry and we want to help the community better understand the technology and its uses.”
Tandon has served as the chief blockchain officer for Lucidexchange.io, blockchain advisor at Thought.Live, and advisor to the CEO of Loyakk.io, according to ECC. He was Oracle’s global product strategist, led Oracle’s North American business intelligence and technology consulting practice, and served on the board of directors for iControl, a leading payment processor for the retail industry.
ECC will also host a workshop on blockchain technology and cryptocurrency by Chainworks from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 17. The program is open to the public and costs $250.
